dsb


ok, tonight im going to change my cc with a dsb, any suggestions on the easiest way to do this? the sand is already live and cycled from another tank, should i take all the rockwork out also and put it back when im done? how long should OI keep my fish out? should I take them out at all? i need some advice

1) I would rinse the LS with freshly made up salt water to try and rinse out as much detritus and gunk as possible.

2) Whether you remove the rockwork depends on wether you want the LR on the bttomof the tank or on top of the LS. Also if you decide to remove it and then put it back, you might want to consider maing some sort of support to keep the LR above the LS or at least keep it from being able to get undermined by anything and then having it all fal.

3) I would also make up extra fresh saltwater and have it on hand just in case.

It probably won't hurt to remove the livestock before starting just to be safe. If you have enough LR and the tank is fairly stable now, you shouldn't get a large cycle, but I would monitor it for a few days before putting the livestock back, provided you have the means to keep them safe for a few days. Also I would try and remove and save as much of the old water, before starting, as possible. Then use fresh made water to rinse the tank after removing the old CC. That way when you fill it back up you aren't basically starting completely from scratch and have a better chance of getting a much smaller cycle if any.
