A regular old hole saw will work just fine;however, forstner bits will make a cleaner hole. With that being said I used hole saws on my tank.

no water is needed on acrylic unless you are cutting 3/4"+ stuff. Thue most important thing is that you are using a corded drill OR a powerful well charged cordless. You dont want the bit stopping mid cut. Do not mistake that for me saying you want to go fast.........let the drill do the work but you want the revolutions to stay constant and moving

Yeah no water needed, but the holes do get hot. I found it best to work on a couple of holes at a time. I'd drill one for 10-15 seconds, then go to the next and so on!
Also be sure to go very slow and don't push when you are about to break through the other side, so you don't chip any as it goes through!

I disagree on the water bit... i use it every time so i don't have to switch and the acrylic does not melt... I just did a thread on this too. level look here, http://thereeftank.com/forums/showth...light=drilling
