don't wait it out because your other fish can catch it from her. some cleaner shrimp should help with the problem. do you have a qt?

Using Formalin for ich is risky, esp for any inverts

Diligence pre purchase, quarantine, enough space to reduce stress, and proper diet, will go a long way to helping. Tangs are primarily grazers and eat a lot of veggie matter, Selcon soaked Nori will provide a lot of the nutrition they need. You might also try treating any foods you feed with garlic juice, it seems to thicken the slime coat and help keep pathogens at bay, tho shedding the cryptocaryan into the water column will just mean that the pathogen is still there waiting for a weak moment to settle in again

Thought I would throw in my amature two bits. When my coral beauty got ick my lfs sugested a medicine called "no sick fish", it was a little spendy but it worked within one week. I was using it in a tank full of mushrumes shrimp and other soft corals. I had no adverse effects on any of my inverts or softies.

IMO, and dealing with this myself on all 3 of my tangs. Dory had it worse than anyone, and I tried the stress free way. I kept my hands and sudden moves away from the tank, selcon soaked algae, garlic soaked foods and I overfed a bit to make them happy and not stressed. There is no cure for ich, but if the fish is strong and not stressed it will build a stronger immune system and just kick it, with hopes of it not returning to the fish during its cycle. It has been about 3 months now for me and the fish are PERFECT. I also have 2 cleaners in the tank as well. But I think that dips and QT's are a bit stressful for the fish and only contributes to the breakdown of their health.
My 2 pennies worth.

I have to say I agree with this as well. Having lost tangs in the past to Ick and treatments, I went the natural way. As long as they are eating good, then feed them as much as they will take. Keep algae or similar in the tank for them to graze and try not to "mess" with them much and so far all the tangs I have came through with no medication. Every now and then my "Dory" will break out with a few spots if she gets stressed, so even if this case goes away, it can reappear at any time down the road when they get stressed. In fact my Dory and my powder brown are aggravating each other right now and they both have a little on them. I figure once they settle their dispute, they will be fine. They are both eating like crazy and not showing any other symptoms other than the spots.

My advise is no fresh water dips just stresses the fish out more. I had a Major outbreak a few months ago and treat the tank with garlic soaked food 2x a day and with in a few weeks the whole tank was clear. That and two cleaner shrimp. In the past I had always used reef safe meds with mixed results. I will never use them again.

Tangs just get ick...fact of life
I vote for the natural way...especially since you have no QT setup now...by the time you get one ready ( bio filters i mean ), you probably could have taken care of it as suggested above.
