Does anyone here employ oysters

I'm toying with the idea of having a oyster run between overflow and sump for nutrient export. Anybody else doing this crazy idea.

So you would periodically harvest the oysters (for the export)? Open them up, a little lemon...

Seriously, there's no export unless you remove the oysters from the tank, which implies either they are reproducing (unlikely) or you're continuously replacing big ones with little ones. In practice, bivalves are rather particular in what they will digest. I doubt they'll be feeding on the kind of nutrients you want them to. Keeping them alive will probably require addition of phytoplankton, which defeats the purpose of nutrient export.

Heh... I remember reading a thread at RC about this in the clam forum. It seems Barry (the guy at Clams Direct) got a fax about black pearl oysters and was testing the waters about them. I don't remember what was said, other than a lot of joking about women reefers raising pearls...

There might have been some debate about what you're thinking - I just don't remember, as it's been a couple of months.
