Does anyone clean their PVC?

I was installing the PVC plumbing for the sump and realized that the PVC was pretty filthy. All that stuff can't be good for my tank, I thought. Doeas anyone do more than just a rinse with water? Is there something special I should clean the PVC with?

If it goes inside the tank I sand it for two resons,get rid of the lettering and to make the coraline algea grow on it easyer if out side rubbing alcohol and then water.
