Does any use Craigslist?

Ive noticed a few people as of late, who are getting into the hobby. And I was just wondering if any newbies, or anyone for that matter has had luck with craigslist? It seems to be VERY cheap, and works out quite well, if in your area.

Example: When I set up my first tank, a 10 gallon nano. I spent like $40 on the tank, $45 on the powerhead, $20 or so on a heater, $40 or so on some live sand, $50 or so on some live rock, $30 for a bag of salt, then about another good $50 on a cleanup crew. Thats $275 for a 10 gallon set up, with no coral or fish!!!

I searched craigslist, got a 20g acryllic with a Porcupine puffer, a tomato clown, some live sand, live rock, a penguin biowheel, and minimal lighting for $60.

I searched craigslist a couple months later, and got a 29L gallon acryllic, with a back pack skimmer, about 5 random powerheads, tons of live rock, live sand, a whole bunch of little brown polyps, star polyps (that I had to discard because they were overrun by algae), and a few very nice fuzzy mushrooms, a candycane coral, not to mention another false perc clown. All for $80! The nitrate problem was fixed within a month or two, and started looking great.

I was just wondering if anyone else has used craigslist, or if you havent even tried, give it a shot! KW: Reef, saltwater, fish, tank, fish tank, aquarium. You'll surely get some results, and save yourself some money. As long as you dont mind having something that was initially someone elses.

I do but be wary. Craigslist is free and i recommend before buying anything that needs mailed make them set up a buy it now for you on ebay or at aminimum pay them with paypal so you have some recourse. I have bought and sold quite a few jetskis through there as well, and half the time you get stood up by people, or are the target of a scam.
It IS a good tool and way to reach people and it works, but tread lightly and watch your back.

Yeah, very understandable. One was a college student, one was a mother who was moving. I picked up both in person...

Sweet, I love it. Stuff is so cheap on there! Theres a decent looking reef for $400 near me, its 55 gallons, with lights and all. If he goes down to $300, Im taking it, selling the lights, and calling it good!

I check it all the time but I've never bought anything, the only thing I've seen that I realy wanted came up when I didn't have any money, it was a 135 gallon tank, stand and canopy for $200.

I think they have great prices and great stuff but I agree, only do local so you can return it right away if it's not what it should be....

I for one love Craigs list and the local Recycler. I have purchased several things from these 2 sources. Considering how exspensive this hobby can be, you have to find some way to save a buck or 2.
