do live rock need light?

I was talking to fly guy and he suggested to put all my equipment in the basement. The more I think about it the better the idea sounds. For one it would be very quiet. second it would allow me to set up a very large sump. say 100+ gallons. Now if I fill this sump with Lr would I need to add light to it to keep it alive?

I agree You don't need the light for the live rock, But You may want to have some cool stuff in the sump also. Then You can have some lighting on it and use it as an added frag holding tank. Not a QT but just a place to raise out smaller frags before placing into the display tank.
