do fins heal?

Recently one of my damsels got a little beat up while transferring him from one tank to another. He has some pretty serious tears in his pectoral fins. Will these heal or are they permanent? I've had cichlids nip at each other before and it seemed like sometimes their fins would grow back...but then sometimes the damage was permanent. Anyone know something about this? thanks

Given time, they will heal.

A little Garlic-Xtreme would not hurt during feeding. I read it will help speed up recovery and damage.

I got a used maroon that looked like a junkyard dog and he healed in a few months.

glad to hear it....it must depend somewhat on the specific fin though, or maybe on the species. I have an orange zebra cichlid that I've had for about 7 or 8 years. He got in an epic battle to the death with a huge pleco a few years back and he has been missing the top of his dorsal fin ever since.
