Do all RO/DI units filter this slowly???

I just hooked up my new RO/DI unit and the filtered water is coming out so slowly! Do all RO/DI units filter this slowly, or could my water pressure just be too low? I am on the third floor apartment in my building? At this rate it could take me all week to fill up a bucket!!

Yes. it may get a little faster but not much. You have to plan your water change times. they waste a hell of a lot of water too. Then you have to heat it, I boil about 2qts or ro water for 6 gal. and that gets it up to 70ish.

OOPS 3rd floor! you need 45psi min. for it to work. You may need a booster pump.

Well it is flowing, just fairly slowly. No faucet flow, more like a trickle. I think I can probably fill 5 gallons in about 2 hours or so. I assume its still functioning properly, just filtering slowly.

that sounds about right, but you'd be suprised at how quickly it will overflow a bucket if you forget about it

That depend on the rating of the unit a 100gpd will be faster then a 40gpd unit.

Mine seems slow but turn around and forget about it for a little bit and you will get to meet the neighbors below you on the second floor when it overflows.

Well I'm glad everyone else's units run slowly too....I was worried something was wrong. I actually have a 100gpd unit so maybe with a little more pressure the speed will pick up. I have another question too....once I fill the needed buckets and turn the valve off from the cold water supply, do I need to empty the water from the filter until the next use, or will it be ok to sit in the canisters until next time?

Let it sit in the canisters, as it is very important that the RO membrane remain wet, if it dries out, it will be junk unless it was allowed to dry in such a manner that prevents its adherence to itself. Best to flush the outer side of the membrane to prolong the life of the RO membrane, especially if the mains water is high in TDS.
