DIY venturi skimmer

Hey all, I built a DIY skimmer out of 2 4" T's according to some plans Geoff hooked me up with. I was going to run it with an extra mag 7 I have, and I was going to make a DIY venturi valve. My question is should I put the venturi valve before the inlet of the pump or after the outlet? some pictures I have seen show them on the inlet of the pump. won't the air in the pump burn up the motor? Please help.

No it shouldnt. The impellor will help chop up the bubbles into micro bubbles. My old Euroreef had the air enter before the pump as did the previous skimmer I had

What kind of pump? There are a few pumps that you can get needle wheel impellors for. They realy help make soem nice bubbles!

using wharyat's venturi design is fine on the inlet. it is a very open venturi valve. i would strongly suggest not putting a true venturi valve before a pump though. these require a large pressure gradient and would quickly starve the pump if put before it.

That looks really light in color, My super skimmer makes a lot less but it's all most black very, very, dark so in the long run, i my self is thinkn its working more effectively, the lighter color seem's to be just wet skimming just like my seaclone that i thru in the garbage,

Wet skimming is good.

Agreed with geoff; a true conical (practically a laval nozzle with a hole) venturi would give some major problems before a pump, those should always be run after.

i have two versions out there. the one on the website here is prolly the more efficient version. it is harder to make though. here is a thread that contains the instructions for the easy skimmer. i really need to get this up on the site.
