Does any dive for they're corals? Seems like that would be awsome!

It's pretty much illegal everywhere,
and diving motto is to only bring back what you left with

but it would be cool to snip off a piece here and there

it matters where you go. I lived in Guam for 2 yrs. the rules there were if you were more than 2 miles you could take rock. more than 10 miles you could take what you want. Try to find a reef that you want to dive at that far out... not many. Clams had to be at least 6 inches... and you could take any fish or anenomes as long as you were not in a protected area. It was very inexpensive to have a tank in Guam... I did have friends that would take pieces of coral that were broken off and buried in the sand to put in their tanks.. Never actually broke and just to do that.

On the fine... very hefty. They could take your boat, dive gear, tank, and sometimes your house... or business. it was kinda up to who caught you and what they saw as how you were supporting the habit.

I got my sand from the beach and then I had a friend take me out to 11 mile reef to get my rock.... 150 ft and 5 min later... I had 2 five gal buckets of rock... and wow...it was nice. probably around 30 lbs.. and all I had to do was help fish when we found a school of tuna... and that was good too...

Now back in the states.... everything is illegal to take up to 50 miles unless you have some special permit. And in WA... it is cold... not warm water.. don't think that they would do so well in my tank..

I was reading the rules of hawaii, and fines are very hefty. The fine is $1k for first violations and/or thirty days in jail, plus up to $1k per specimen taken illegally. The only thing it does allow is to take live sand, rock, coral, and coral rubble where live stock isnt attached to it. And each person is allowed 1 gallon, per day, for personal use (no resale).

Thats hawaii, and the US laws though. But there sure are pretty corals to take little frags off of. You could fill a nice tank with 1gallon a day lol.
