Distilled Water

Does anyone here use distilled in thier tanks?

I am just curious as I can get it close by, and the guy there said tons of ppl get water from him for thier tanks. I was told by another guy today as well that he prefers distilled over RO.

i thought i read there were problems with distilled being 'too pure' or maybe it was something to do with copper contamination from the distillation process or something....hmmm... will be interested to know this also....

As in distilled i used it before and do sometimes when feeling lazy or dont have time to make top off water. I goto walmart and get the distilled water from the shelf it is 59 cents a gallon comes with a purple cap.

Other than that i make my own RO/DI water.

DO NOT USE THAT WATER FOR 25 CENTS A GALLON FROM THE MACHINE IN FRONT OF WALMART IT IS CRAP

Does that mean that water from the dehumidifier would be OK? I have often wondered about that.

I believe the problem with distilled is that you don't know what kind of equipment was used to distill it. The water has to be boiled and then condensed through a series of coils and it just happens that a great material to boil and condense water is copper due to it's great heat transfer capabilities. Copper is of course detrimental to many tank inhabitants and it will leach into the product water.

I too don't trust the machines in front of stores, I think it comes down to the person on the route and how good he is about changing out the cartridges. They may fall behind and the water not all that pure. I have never seen an inspector testing the water and don't think it's regulated. So who knows
