Question

disease problem

hello,
this site is awsome.
i was wondering if someone could help me out. im currently about 3 weeks into my cycle of a 120 gallon tank. i've got 120 pounds of aragonite live sand and three damsels. i've been shopping around for cheap live rock, so i decided to go with uncured live rock, that was yesterday. today my domino damsels are freckled with white spots. what is this? and if its bad how do i clear my water of this? if i remove the fish will it eventually clear from my water? ( sorry, my spelling sometimes sucks.) THANKS, THIS SITE HAS BEEN TRULY HELPFULL.

sounds like you stressed the fish alot by having them in there during the cycle and that they are getting ick. What are all you parameters?

uh-oh!

yep...you did it now! hahaha

when you introduce UNCURED rock into your tank, you kick off another cycle. Damsels are pretty hardy fish, but they still can get stressed by it.

test your parameters. I bet one of your levels (amm, 'trites, 'trates) are pretty high.

Best thing to do would be to get the fish out, and either put him in another tank, or take him back to the LFS.

If you can't do that, then you need to do some water changes. Frequently.

also, start soakin food in garlic. This will give him a fighting chance, as it's reported to boost their immune system.

Come back to us with your levels, and we can take it from there.

I agree, get the damsel out. Trust me, you'll want to at some point anyway (they are nasty buggers, especially if they are the first in the tank) The uncured live rock will take some time to fully cure (1-2 months) you should wait at least a month before adding anything.

Brent, From what I've read and heard, Weiss's stuff is overpriced and unneccessary. many of the products are loaded with phosphate...you might as well be pouring algae into your tank.
