Question

dirty water


i frequently get a brown film on top of water. eve after water changes. 30 gallon less than six months old with power compacts. any advice helpful

You need to skim the top of the tank and are You running a skimmer on the tank, That film is not good for the tank, You can also add water movement to the top with PH to break it up and then skim it out.

Welcome and I agree with Vince you need to skim and or break the top surface.You should own a protein skimmer!

I had the same problem and added more flow to the top of the tank. Not only did it break down the film but it adds more oxygen when you have the ripples. Plus more flow really can't hurt much.
