Truth be told the Electric Flame Scallop is actually a type of File Clam...they also have a near 100% death rate in the hobby...as mentioned they are non-photosynthetic and it seems that providing the needed diet for flame scallops is nearly impossible in a captive environment...as such, nearly all specimens die in a few months if not weeks.
Clams if you are referring to the "giant clams" (Maxima, Crocea, Squamosa, etc.) are photosynthetic as well as being filter feeders...so, if provided with adequate lighting, do well most of the time in captive systems.
