I went to Premium Aquatics for my rock. The entire process was flawless and they gave me wonderful giant interesting pieces just like I asked for.

Also, I called twice with questions and the service was impeccable.

Let us know how it goes with your purchase.

Whoa hold up there....

The "Cultured" LR is man made!

I would stay away from man made rock. It's just not porous enough for good filtration.

Not necessarily Gumhead...I remember using some black lava rock for base rock in a tank some years back and after a long while you could hardly tell it from the live rock, and it was VERY porous. I wouldn't think it should be the same price though!!!!

Walt Smith's Fiji Cultured rock IS great rock!!! as is his Premium rock. Both are great reef structures and have no noticable differences in performance of filtration. It is just a matter of looks and usually pricing, because of things effecting the availability due to Fiji's "natural rock" harvest quota's and the amounts of cultured rock READY for harvest, Lets not forget the importance of the eco-friendlyness of the Cultured rock. I would not hesitate buying Walt Smith products at all. I can not say the same thing about Caribean rock from Tampa bay Saltwater or other gulf rock supliers, although TBS rock is a good rock I personally dont care for it. Please dont confuse that with a slam to thier product because it is a good product. Its just personal taste on the way its cultured and a few other reasons not pertaining performance persay.

I have yet to see man-made rock that is as porous as natural rock. Good natural LR is like a sponge, you just can't make it like that from cement. I'm all for "Eco-friendliness" But you will need more man-made rock to do the same as good porous natural LR. So yes it is pertaining to performance.

Ganja wanted to know if there was a difference in the two rocks and there is... a big differences!

And ReefDoctor I did not slam anyones product!!! I was giving my opinion. I said...

I would stay away from man made rock

Lets NOT forget cultured rocks are man made for a reason. you have to take premium rocks from the natural reef as far as i know and replacing them with man-made structures is not a great option. if filtrations a worry get a stronger (or another) powerhead to move your water . the new worms and whatnot will give you holes eventually I dont mean to sound like a d--k but these natural reefs are WAY to important to our hobby and our planet
