DI refill.....
Hello,
Is there such thing as a bag of refill DI resin for a RODI unit ?
If so, where can I get it from ?
I've only seen replacement cartridges online. I'm starting to worry çause I've seen my filter work so far and at the rate my DI stage is turning brown, I think I may need to replace it quicker than I thought...
Thanks!

I believe www.resindepot.com sells refillable cartridges and media.

Thanks Rob !
Text extracted from the link you posted:
"It works by exchanging hydrogen ions for cationic and hydroxyl ions for anionic contaminants in the feedwater..............
This system has some disadvantages. It requires the assistance of another system to produce absolutely pure water................. and stagnant water in the cartridges can actually encourage the growth of bacteria. It does not remove all of the dissolved organics from the feedwater, and these can foul the ion exchange resin. It needs to be combined with other purification technologies to achieve the level of purity required for research. "
Does this mean that I should purchase a mixed bed resin ?
It also says that there may be some bacterial growth in the DI stage due to stagnant water. Is this something that can be addressed, is it important at all or do we just live with it?
If I get 1 cuft of resin, how do I store it ?
Thanks again for the reply !!!

Yes, you should get mixed bed resin, as it will pull all the ions out of the water. In the length of time you use the water, I don't think you'll have problems with bacterial growth on your resin, as long as you keep your prefilters clean. Biggest problem with bacterial growth is on RO membranes, and backflushing can alleviate that. Bioslime is probably one of the prime reasons RO membranes fail (that and scaling)
On storage, keep resin in original container and don't let it dry out. Drying causes rupture of the resin beads with potential clogging of the DI cartridges internal filter.

Oh. One more question
How often should I clean the carbon block and the sediment block and how ?
Thanks again !

I installed a flush kit to the waste water line of my filter.
The flush kit allows to bypass the waste water restrictor and washes the membrane with a full pressure stream of water.

How do you flush the filter. Doesn't the pressure going backwards go against the pump head of the main water supply. Do you need a valve to shut off the main supply off the hose fitting or tap and a drain before the filter with another valve on it?

Nop.
When you open the valve in the flush kit, it allows the water to bypasss the restrictor, so a stream of water flows freely thru the membrane (see diagram) cleaning its inner surface, where there´s the risk of slime build up, scaling, etc.

With the flush kit closed, the pressure is contained by the restrictor forcing some water to flow thru the membrane. With the flush kit open, the water just flows directly thru the waste water line.
An extra tip: Some vendors even sell an adjustable flow restrictor, to force more water thru the membrane....
