Good luck getting an 8 gallon stable enough for a clam. How long have you been successfully keeping corals alive?

about a year now, my corals consist of a branching hammer(4 heads) GSP's, button polyps, shrooms, kenya tree, ricordea, and two huge zoa rocks.

OK cool, didn't mean to sound like a b-hole
A clam will be a serious step up in stability over what you have going. I'm waiting to automate my system a little more before I go with clams, I'm scared I'll just be buying everybody lunch at the moment.

I would recommend better lighting personally. The stock lighting on the cubes just doesn't cut it. As neuticle says make sure your tank is stable stable stable..
How often are you doing water changes? Do you dose two part or calc? Clams are calcium/alk eating machines... I have six clams in my 90 with few sps and I really had to up my dosing of two part to keep my calc levels in the 1400 range.
