Deadly Purple Primer?????
Soooo, after reading here that I should build "reef stands" to keep my rock from touching the sand directly, I went ahead and cut and drilled PVC pipe as someone here suggested. I think that it will work out fine, excellent idea. But I got the idea that hiding the PVC would be nice, so I painted it with Purple Primer. I read that here as well, but only in one thread. Was this a bad idea? Hopefully, once it is dry, it will not be toxic to my reef or fish..... Any thoughts on the toxcisity of Purple Primer??????? Thanks!!!!!!

I use it on all my plumbing without trouble, I think it will be just fine.

Its fine to use as soon as it isnt wet to the touch. Minutes usually. The smell is enough to make you think twice but it is perfectly harmless.

i did it, no problem, also tim224d did it. thats who i got the idea from. no problem with him either. (not with his tank anyway. his head is a different story, just make sure you use the primer in a well ventilated area)

have you looked into doing this to raise your LR up off of the bottom? it is a bit more expensive, but it does a better job in keeping the flow up underneath the LR.

Yes I used purple primer as well and all is good!.
The rock lifts are a much better idea, but PVC is better than just on the sand!

I used Forestner bits that I got from Lowes. The whole set wasn't cheap, $50 bucks, but it has every size bit that I could ever want to use for just about any size hole. The benefit of using Forestner bits is that by design, you won't have to pull the PVC pieces out of the drill bit like you would if you were to use a standard hole saw. That was a total pain in the butt! The only catch is high speed on the drill. I used a 19.2 volt hand drill and placed the pieces in a vice grip to hold it steady. Good Luck!
