Damsels

LFS said that all Damsels excluding Chromis, will become very agressive and loss color as they mature. I have some green chromis now and they are great, nice color and very peaceful. Would anyone recommend adding another species? If so, any recommendation on Damsel that would not be too agressive and not loose color? Thanks.

I, personally, don't know a damsel or dottyback that does not turn aggressive. I will look it up for you though.

Thanks. You know I don't mind a little agression. I have tons of liverock & have kept african cichlids in the past. But I am not a sadist and would hate to get a fish that goes psycho and actually kills tank mates.

I am also curious about the loss of color; I have read that a few species do, such as the jewel fish. However, I question whether it is the norm or not. Please let me know what you find out.

Damsel's are the spawn of Satan...they belong on the reef not in your tank. Clownfish are going to be a close to a true damsel that you should get. You get what you pay for and a $2.50 fish will cause $250 worth or pain!

Well I hope my peaceful green chromises do not turn into blood-thirsty demons some day! Different right?

So are there anyone who can stand up for these cute little guys?

Prismaco,

Thanks for the suggestion on getting a cat; but I have one now and she would not be too far off from a crazed Damsel if there was another cat in the house. She already has my two airedale terriers bowing down to her majesty...

Chromis are indeed good. Damsels = PITA. We have 6, and they have divvied the tank into 6 1 foot sections and rarely cross territory lines. Silly fish.

Clowns are debatable. I had the true perc from hell... she killed her mate, 3 Banggai cardinals, 2 tangs and a lawnmower blennie over 2 years before we could pin it on her. She's in solitary confinement in a friend's nano now.

I'd gamble with clowns over putting a damsel in.

Yes damsels lose there color. I ahd a blue velvet damsel that as it matured lost all its colr except for black. They are evil fish and should never be allowed in a fish tank. On the perc issue I have a true perc and it lives in some what of harmony with the sabea clown I also have. But they do stay on opposite ends of the tank.

The only person who would stand up for Damsels is a person who can't afford to keep more expensive fish, so they defend what they have...

Damsels are nasty, nasty, nasty.... They are small and mean... very mean... And man are they hard to catch... Don't make the mistake of putting them in your tank...
