cyano in my fuge

The tank looks great but there is a little bit of cyano in the fuge. The fuge is 1/3 of my sump with a trickle of water fed in off the pump return through a valve, and it has a couple of mini-jets in there.

My big theory is that during the initital tank setup the sand silt settled in there and the silicates might be overloading things. During the next water change I was going to vacuum from the fuge.

The plants in there are doing awesome and the lighting is about 12 hours per day with a little PC light over the sump.

Any ideas? I can't increase the flow too much or the plants will come out of there.

Cut the lights out for three days, move the algae that you want to keep to a 5 gallon bucket and put the light over it for those three days. Just make sure that there isn't any cyano on the algae.

Okay Tony. I did notice that everything anchored in there and was able to increase the flow, and I was going to remove the cyano and do a water change in the fuge. Along with this I am going to cut the super bright light time in half.

If that doesn't work I'll clean out the whole thing like you suggested and go from there.

I am not sure what is really feeding the cyano unless that is the settling ground for the junk in my tank.

Oops Cynthia was logged in...well at least it will help her post count....Phishnoob

I never worry about what is in the fuge... I have some cyano, a little hair algae and then the regular fuge stuffings. The tank has never looked so clean, so I've just left my fuge do its thing the last 8 months or so.

Well that sounds good Hop. That has to be the worst case scenario with the most light, least flow and gravity.

I still want to suck the crud out of there this weekend on the water change.

Man the caleupra and cheato look so healthy, so at least I mastered the art of growing that stuff.
