Custom Canopy setup questions

Hey guys,

i am building a custom canopy for my tank. My tank is 46" wide, 24" high and 18" deep.

I am not exactly sure the intensity of the lighting that i want to use. I was thinking i would would keep my 10k PC white and actinic from my JBJ and put the white at the front of the canopy, the actinic at the back of the canopy and have a metal halide at the center along with 2 moon lights.

What intensity or brand or type of metal halide would I need to penetrate well through the 24" height of the tank.

I saw a couple closed loop systems that people made in their hoods, and was thinking of doing something like that to keep the water surface moving well but not 100% sure yet.

Would a 12" hood height be good? The hood will sit 1.5" over the tank to cover the black plastic frame of the tank and another .5" for the thickness of the wood at the top of the canopy should bring me to a total of 10" from the water surface to the top of the canopy.

I was thinking of a cigarrette box type of opening for my canopy..
