Crack - What to do?

I was about to fill my 110g to see if there were any leaks when I discovered a 2" hairline crack (probably caused by a terrible two dropping a skate) in one of the bottom quadrants about 6" off the back and 12" from the end. Still at least 16" from center.

My thought was to silicon a piece of glass over it. Would that work and should I be worried about structural problems later?

Help.

Thanks,
Samson

I wouldn't take any chances. More than likely the crack will grow and leak or worse you could have a blowout. Either replace the panel or ditch the tank.

I agree with Rick, you MIGHT be able to silcone a piece of glass over the whole piece of cracked but I would not trust the tank at all. You might be able to fix it like that and use it for a nice size sump that would be filled half full.

Sorry but I think the tank is toast ;(

110 gallons of water at 8.3 lbs per gallon
I might try and patch it and use it as a shallow prop tank or similar, Might even risk it as a FW if it was somewhere water damage could be minimized , but sorry no way would I risk the investment a tank that size amounts to as a SW tank

Check with an auto glass company

Like the ones that repair rock chips. I have a 75 that had a couple of chips on the corner. I took it to them and he used what appeared to be a UV type device (kinda like a dentist's tool) and did his thing. It has been up and running with no leaks for over a year.
