CPR bakpak way too noisy

so I just got a cpr bakpak the other day as an upgrade from the red sea prism I'd been using. I loved how the prism was small, unobtrusive and quiet, but it just didn't skim well enough. I originally wanted an aquaC remora after hearing all the praise people on the net give it, but the store I went to didn't have any and gave me a good price on the bakpak. the bakpak seems to be a good unit, skims great, but its unacceptably loud. I've given it a few days to break in and quiet down, but no dice. the sucking/bubbling sound just dominates my living room.

is there any way to make the bakpak quieter? if not, then would the aquaC remora (or any other quality hang-ons) be any quieter?

thanks!

First off, what pump is it running? They used to come with Rio's but when I used a BakPak I did the "maxi-jet" mod and it wasn't noisy at all. You also have to make sure the venturi tube is dry, and open to your liking. I would usually run hot water through mine to break down any deposits (salt creep, etc.) and then blow it out really good. Mine was never noisy and I had the tank only a few feet from my bed.

it came with a maxijet 1200. also, I'm using the overflow intake box CPR sells for it. the venturi tube is clear and open, but I have the valve set pretty closed-up, otherwise it won't generate enough bubbles in the chamber.

Hmmmm, not sure then. Try disassembling the maxijet and make sure the impeller champer is clean and free of debris. Maybe you've got a bit of sand in there and it's making some noise.

I had the same problem when i first got my cpr bakpak. Now that I've been using cpr bakpak for 3 yrs in a row, I already got used to the noise. But sometimes when it really gets louder than the usual, i just clean it and wallah!

They all going to make noise. with tank that is something you may have to adjust to. You can't reall pump and have all that water movement without some noise. Bak Paks seem to be low on the noise level. You may have one thats makes alittle more noise then most

You can try increasing the length of the airline tube. That helped to quiet mine down a bit. Also check out CPR's forums lots of helpfull stuff over there.

awesome, thanks for the help guys. I lengthened the airline tube and tweaked the intake valve some more and it's now nice and quiet.
