Question

Couple of Questions

I need to relocate the galaxy coral according to the book Aquarium Corals by Eric Borneman a low flow area will reduce the sweeper tentacles. where it is now it gets long sweepers. I think the lowest flow is where the finger leather coral is at the top between the powerhead and the intake? or would it be ok to move it to the bottom of the tank below the power head? I'm not sure if it would get enough light there. ( I will move the Xenia to the other side if the Galaxy can be on the bottom)

also on the live rock just below the powerhead is a brown furry/fuzzy algae? It will not brush off and is not effected by the turkey baster. It is only on this piece of rock should I be concerned?

The wrasse is on his way out my husband (master walleye fisherman ) is going to try and catch him with a small hook baited with krill so we don't need to remove all the rock. He already blew his chance with the net and scooping him out of the sand so this is a last resort!!
Thanks in advance for any and all info! Kelli

Your tank looks really nice I would leave it the way it is, as for the fish I have used that method before

Hi Kelli,

even moving this specimen will not likely reduce the nocturnal extension of sweepers, best to make sure that there are not any prized specimens within 6 inches of the edge of the specimen in question.

It wouldn't hurt to pace the rock with the algae upside down (algae side down), or place another coral on top of it (your flowerpot? )

Thanks Chris and Tom. Tom the sweepers are out day and night I like where it is so if I don't need to move it thats great. By Flowerpot do you mean the out of control Xenia? wouldn't that be too much flow?

Very nice looking tank, The 2 nd picture I can't really make it out , is that the brown algae you mention , I think i have some but it is very slow growing. I am not sure of what it is , I also have some of the same plate looking algae.

The second picture is the algae it's like a dark rusty brown almost like a brillo pad I tried to crop the picture to enlarge the it but it doesn't photograph well! It doesn't seem to spread quickly at all.
Once the wrasse is gone (probably going to be walleye bait I've asked around but noone wants it and the LFS that sold it to me as reef safe will only give me 20.00 and they are about 50 miles away) I will start a thread for some new corals as Tom suggested to cover the area.

Thanks for the compliment Rotties I'm still waiting for more Harley pictures!!!

Agreed with all, the tank looks great!

Moving it to lower flow will help; but like Tom said, still make sure you have 6" or so between it and anything else.

I have something like that algae too, mine has more of a plating/encrusting look to it. I have actually noticed it cycle; came around in May-July last year, and has come back this year at the same time. Hasn't bugged me at all; pretty cool addition IMO, as long as it stays small
