Counter top water filtration systems

I have an Equinox eq-10 Water filter system on my tap. it treats lead (low and high PH), clorine, and lindane. My city water supply is surface water and has good quality. Would I be able to use this in place of an ro system short term. Or could I mix the treated water with half distilled to get good water quality. Im only using a 44 gallon tank,

I am not familiar with that system, but it sounds kinda like a glorified carbon filtration setup. Any idea what makes it tick? While the removal of the aforementioned stuff is good, municipal water systems add other stuff in varying amounts at various times. Of major concern in a reef tank is any outside source of nitrates, phosphates and VOCs and pesticide residues. You might want to consider getting a Tap Water Purifier online of figuring out a way to put PolyFilter in the cartidge, FWIW

One way to find out is to make a bucket of water from the tap without the filter and then test it for Nitrate, Phosphate, Nitrite, and PH. Make another bucket using the filter and test again. That will tell you what (if any) the filter is reducing.

Most city waters are high in Phosphate and Nitrate.

(don't forget to add something to kill the clorine if you do use it for your tank)
