Coris Wrasse

I'm lookin into purchasing my final fish for my 55 gallon reef system i have a percula clown, diamond goby, and lawnmower blenny, skunk cleaner shrimp and i want to have just one more fish for the system thats a nice bright fish that swims aorund becasue i need more movement in the tank. I like the idea of a bright yellow fish but havent seen many options...i saw a coris wrasse the other day and the dealer said it was reef safe but i have been reading that they arent so i wanted to ask you guys if you knew of any other bright yellow fish besides a yellow tang or a yellow candy hogifish? and if you know if a coris wrasse would be reef safe? thanks

I'e got a yellow coris wrasse and like him a lot. He's got beautiful color, is never agressive towards the other fish, is always moving, eats pretty much whatever I put in, and is always picking at whatever on the LR. He's now about 3" or so and shows up great in our 210g. Highly recommended.

FWIW,

If I am thinking of the same fish Halichoeres chrysus the yellow coris isn't actually a coris... so it doesn't fit the same discription of say the bigger coris wrasses.
wetwebmedia says it is reefsafe... For some reason I always though they had a problem with shrimp! Looks like I was wrong.

Other yellow fish that swim - there are a few dwarf angels but they are 50/50 with coral...

true, the yellow 'coris' wrasse is not actually of the coris family; they only get to be just under 5 inches. I have one and I LOVE LOVE LOVE him. I have two large cleaner shrimp which he doesnt bother and he is very amicable towards the other fish (nice). well i dont know if he's nice...he doesnt open doors for them or let them go for that piece of flake food first, but...he's not mean. ive read in my book they can go after fanworms and some of the more delicate shrimp but if you dont mind that, theyre really active, bright, cool fish. they like to bury themselves when the lights go out so you should have at least a couple inches of sand in your tank.

Sounds cool... I have a feeling my 4line wouldn't be very friendly towards one!

As has already been noted, there are several different types of "Coris" wrasses. I'm not familiar with the Yellow Coris. However, I just returned to the dealer a Coris wrasse, the exact species of which I'm honestly not sure. It is either a Coris Gaimard or a Coris Formosa; my guess is that it's a Coris Gaimard that has started taking on its adult coloration. This fish was stunningly beautiful, a real eyecatcher that visitors to my tank always admire. However, it flips over rocks, and the larger it grows, the larger the rocks it can flip over, meaning that none of my corals are immune to being flipped upside down. It's also a very hard fish to catch as it digs deep into the sandbed to hide and sleep. I had to wait until I tore down my tank to move to catch my pesky beauty.

I also have a Sixline whose is no problem but who swims so fast and darts around to a degree that makes it hard to see it.

Have you considered the dwarf angels for color and movement?

yes i considered the dward angels but i heard they are 50/50 with coral and even though some only get 5 inches they seem so big and i think one would be a much havier load on the tank. i have a med. cleaner shrimp so im a little nervous now about the coris and i could always return my feather duster but i'll keep lookin. oh yeah...does anyone know if they swim around alot (coris wrasse) becasue you rarely see my blenny or my diamond goby. thanks
