They are ok, but you can find ones with far better output.

I bought 2 175w-14k few wks ago. Compare to ushio, hamilton, XM I've ever used, the brightness and color are not that good. A new coralvue isn't look as bright as a 6 mos old hamilton.

A LFS near me uses coralvue 20kk in all thier tanks. I think they look awesome. I'm not sure if they are running them on a HQI ballast or not, but I suspect they are. The frag tank has great colors. Here's a link to thier website, you can view the pictures although I think the corals look
better in person, you might email them asking what ballast they are using
http://www.upscales.com

The par (light output) is only about half a xm10k, but for me I didn't need that much light anyway. Are you going BB if so less light is ok.

Just my 2 cents

I ran the coral vue 10K. They are a nice alternative to a 14k or 15K They basically are a rather blue tinted 10K bulb. I liked the color of it!

Are these the same as the coralife 10k 150W MH bulbs? That is the bulb I have in my Aqualight Pro. Are they any good? Should I consider something else when replacing them? How do I find out what their PAR rating is?

Thanks

I searched around but could not find the manufacturer of the coralife bulb. But I did look up AB 150 DE 10Kk bulb and it had ppfd of 54. ppfd and par are to different ways of measuring the output of the bulb. Sanjay's comparisons can be found here in ppfd

nypd par ratings can be found here, but I could not bring up the page got some error. But maybe it will work in the future

Here's another cool site to compare 250watt bulbs side by side
