Corals introducing fish disease?

Hey all. I tried searching some, but didn't come up with what I wanted. I know I have read about it before, but can't seem to find it now.

Anyways, can corals transfer fish disease?

I dip them for coral problems, ie, parasites, disease, etc, but can't they carry fish disease too? Like Ich, Velvet, Brook, etc?

Especially if you get a coral or frag from someone's tank, take it home, dip it and then put it into your tank?

Just wondering what the consensus was and if there was any proof/research of this.

I'm sure the best answer is to QT all corals, but I just trashed my QT, b/c I am using copper right now to treat my fish, so no corals can go into it again.

Thanks for the help and info.

i do not belive they can directly give you a disease, but things can be on the outside of them and transfer to you.
some corals like the fire coral can sting you pretty bad

i believe if u have a ich cyst on the coral, it can be introduced into the tank. Now I dont know if FW dipping them gets rid of the cysts

i can see parasite problems being transfered by getting corals. more precisely the LR itself. not sure if the coral body itself could support the parasite.

parasites yes.....disease.....i really dont think so. the parasites will usually only effect other corals.

I am fairly certain I brought velvet into one of my tanks via corals (or the LR they were attached to) some years ago. I wasn't QTing back then.

I agree it can come into your tank in many ways, If you have more then one tank you can spread things by using the same net, your arm and so on, I had an outbreak on all of my tanks some time back, started with one and ended up in all, I worked on them and one by one my fish go sick, I am more careful now about washing my hands and arm between tanks. and all net or what ever.

since i read the question wrong the frist time i figure i would go at it again.

the corals themselves will not give you fish a disease, the microbes that are in the corals may affect other corals, the way you can pass a fish disease would be a bug on the put side of the coral that was trapped when it was bagged from where ever it came from.

i have not found any references towards a direct microbe result in disease towards fish... now humans... that is a different story, we can give them stuff..

there are a few papers out there, so far the ones i have looked at or read , talk about the human waste products and bacteria ( E.Coli).
i really need to lookin that one a bit more, my lab works with and on E.coli . killing it is easy, it grows or doubles in 22 minutes. you have it in your body all the time. but we need it.
a few papers that i came across were talking about the CO2 content and what we have done to the seas and the atmosphere, thus causing the temps and SC levels to be off and thus causeing the white and black band diseases that have been effecting many corals through out the world, but that is not a 100% proven fact at all.
some of the microbes within the corals are being looked at in a lab setting, in order to figure out exactly what is happening and why. MOTE labs is one of the labs lookining to this. there are a few others but i can not recall them ( now that i need them!).

cna you give you coral you commom cold, no i dont belive so.
