Coralline Algae question......

Hello all. It has been a while since I have posted here as I no longer have a tank. But I have a question about the tank at my mothers house. The tank has become totally encrusted in coralline algea and unlike most people she cannot stand the look of it. Is there any magic trick to make it all go away/ die off? If I cant get something done with it, I will have to spend many hours stripping that tank and turning it back to freshwater which I really do not want to do. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

you should start scrapping when the coralline is in its first stages, like little dots, cause when they start layering and gets thicker it gets harder to scrap. imo..

Some coraline -like the purple grow in the non-brightest lit areas of the tank.
As mentioned - get that razor blade out if it's glass and start scraping. Harder to do with acrylic.

good luck

what a happy complaint

I dont like the look of corraline encrusted glass either. At my LFS, they had an adjustable length aluminum algae cleaner. You can use different attachments at the head of it for diffferent things. 1 of them is a scraper and I can reach all the way down the tank with it. I'll see if I can find out who made it.

I have a scraper from the lfs and it does work great, as for the stuff on the rocks i have heard that urchins and a couple other creatures eat it, the only problem is that they say that it usually grows back faster and hardier. My suggestion, ask about the urchin and other creatures at the lfs.
