Coralline Algae

I have my 55g fully loaded with rock, I have some rock with the purple coralline on it, and others are almost totally green. I have heard that coralline can be green, is that the case? If so, what can i do/add to make my tank purple? I add calcium every other day (kent) and do water changes every other week. Also add Iodine for shrimp and anemone. I am fairly new to reefing and am trying to learn as much as possible to built a nice tank.

Thanks

really need more tank info, how long as the tank been set up and all, But coralline comes in many shades and color, it can be green. it will be a dull pale looking green if it is real bright and almost shines or looks neon then it will be green algae. not the best or what you are looking for. But it's hard to really say with what little info You have posted.

what are your Ca and alk levels? without knowing these, you could be fighting an uphill battle if your levels are all out of whack.

what else is in the tank that would use Ca?

It is a dull green, I will have to check my ALK and buy something to check calcium. When I get off work I will take a picture and add to the post. Only things in the tank now are 2 Pepp Shrimp, 1 Cond anemone, 2 Green chromis, 5 Narc snails and 10 Mex Turbo snails.

i would say stop adding suppliments. they are not needed in your tank. regular water changes should keep your levels up enough to support corraline algae. having the test kits will let you know for sure.

who should add kalk, and calcium? I just intend to have fish, and softies. I'm just trying to see what test I should get in the future when and if I ever get there.

booboo I think that calcium and alk need to be dosed in systems with alot of hard corals and clams. For fish and softies regular water changed would be enough to keep the levels up. You should have test kits for Alk and calcium though because if you have a problem of any sort those test results will be the first things people around here will ask for!
I guess I'll order mine now!
