coraline question
I was looking at my tank today and wondering what to do with those exposed pvc pipes, and started to wonder if there was some way to get/encourage coraline algae to grow on them? I have a few pieces in my 20g that it is growing on (tip of a rock and a snail shell). It is bright purple and very pretty... is there any way to make it happy so it will spread?

Does anybody know about or has anybody used this product. Curious if it is ok to use. I have lots of coraline growing in my 80 and my 46 is just starting to grow it on its own, but wouldnt mind accelerating a bit in the 46. Im a little wary though without educated input.

I wouldnt use it thats just my opinion...........In my tank i add Sea Chem Reef Builder, Sea Chem Reef Advantage Calcium, and Sea Chem pH Buffer.
With these three products my coraline wont stop growing! I test my water weekly to make sure these levels are constant and in good range.

I think Casey uses it. If it is not Casey who ever it is says they love it and they are reliable (hence the confusion with Casey).

I have heard that if you take a piece of LR that has good growth on it, hold it in the water and scrub it really hard with some type of stiff brush, coraline will come off the rock and spread everywhere.

i have heard great things with purple up. lots of people are using local to me with great results.
i do believe that if all is stable in your tank and within the correct parameters it will only be a matter of time before your tank turns pink and purple.

Some people use the primer on the outside to make it look like it,but if you want the real stuff have good water quality and sand the pipe so it's easy to attach itself.

The Coraline I had was just barely. Using purple-up has done wonders, i thought i had only the lighter pink color now i got quite a few different colors "popping" up.

I have always had better corraline under less light...but that is just me. I would say keep your levels up and be patient...corraline seems to have an affinity for plastic!

Jessica,
Have you thought about glueing frags to the pipe?
If you have a GSP, they grow like CRAZY! Just take a piece, glue it towards the bottom of the pipe, and in a couple weeks, it'll take over!
you can do that with other types of corals too. Anything that's encrusting. (but if it likes high flow, it might not get enough being ON the pipe, instead of in front of it. So softies usually do best!
