coralife super skimmer problem

Ok I have had a lot of problems with this skimmer but have kept trying to solve them cause I like how it works most of the time.
Shortly after setting it up(3 weeks) it started to overflow so I put an overflow on collection cup running to 5G pail so no more big floods on floor.Again this was very periodic and I checked everything, airline for restriction, height of pump in tank, lenth of discharge tube etc.
Coralife was very helpful and sent me a plastic inline valve to reduce intake from pump and a new body!Great service!
Well it started to leak from around the red control knob. Drip drip drip onto floor again. So I changed the body they sent me and same thing its dripping from around the red control knob.
I'm now ready to send back and get an Aqua Remora like my other tank has.
Thought I'd check here first to see if anyone else has had similar problem and a fix first.

I just got a 65 about 3 weeks ago works good for me. Is your water output above the water line?

yes water output above waterline, I've even removed the flex tube so it just dumps back in tank without any back pressure!

Can you add ozone to those skimmers?

My LFS recommended one to me and ordered it for me. Then I did some research and cancelled the order. The Corallife almost seems like a toy when you compare it to some of the majors.
I went with tha ASM, it was cake to put together and it works really nice.

Yes you can run ozone on them. What do you have the water level in the skimmer at? Do you have the red control knob all the way open?

I had the red knob almost shut, but tried all combinations, still would get periodic leaking.

Have sent it back and traded for an AquaC Remora, easier to clean and no leaking since I already have one on my larger tank I know how they work!

Too bad I actually thought the Coralife skimmer did a fine job skimming, just too finicky for my tank I guess.

I have a larger model not the 65 rated and I have never had a problem, The only thing I do is clean it every week or two.

I've had similar problems before. I solved my problems by cutting a small tip of that plastic pipe or if that doesn't help, you can adjust the arm of the collection cup in an angle. Just my .02 I think it's doing this because the plastic pipe where it touches the filter, well if it's pointed straight down, water pressure will build up and it will leak on top of the adjustment valve. I hope this works for you.
