Question

Coralife Power Compact question

Good evening...

Well it is finally up and running...after months of planning, researching and praying. And...I feel so proud of it.

Thank you to all who have shared their wisdom over the years on this message board. It is so wonderful to be able to search and find help at any time!

When we bought the Coralife Power Compact lighting (2 x 65 w) with Lunar Light, it didn't occurr to us to ask how to use it.

When do we use which lights?
Does the lunar light stay on all night?
Do we turn on the blue light only in the evening?
Do the white & blue lights stay on all the time?

I'm a little confused.

Thanks again to everyone! You are awesome!

Renee

I don't have the lunar light but I can tell you how I run mine. The blue light (actinic) comes on an hour before my white light (10K). They then both remain on for roughly seven hours. The blue light remains on for one more hour. The purpose of the blue light coming before and then going off after the white light is to make it seem like sunrise and sunset. I have mine working off two timers.

The lunar lights are supposed to run when both of the other lights are off to simulate moonlight. I'm not sure if people just have those running all the time to avoid having a third timer.

Your fans on the coralife fixture will only come on when the front light is on, the white light.

The number of hours you run them is up to you. If I have them on too long I seem to have more algae. Also it doesn't have to match our daylight hours. Mine come on around 2pm and then go off at 11pm so that way I can enjoy the tank in the evening after work.

Hope this helps.

I have the exact lighting that you have: Coralife Power Compact with Lunar Light 2 x 65w on my 29 gallon.

For me:
blue light turns on at 7:00 a.m. and turns off at 9:00 p.m.
white light turns on at 8:00 a.m. and turns off at 8:00 p.m.

Moon lights turns on at 9:00 p.m. and turns off at 7:00 a.m.

I use 3 separate timers. This is just my preference.

Thank you very much for all of the wonderful advise.

Having a timer on them is a great idea...time to head to Home Depot.

Thanks again!
