Coralife Lighting Problem

Hi everyone,

I am using the 4X65W 48" Coralife lighing fixture. One side of the tank is far brighter then the other, even the LED moon lighs are brighter on one side. This is clearly evident on the moonlights, and by the fact that all the coral on dim side is doing terribly. I've had the fixture for about 8 months. I'm inclined to think that the problem was there all along, but being new to the hobby I didn't know what to look for. I'm just now starting to realize that the problem might have always been there.
Is it a ballast problem, or do I just need to replace the lights on the one side. I am wondering if anyone else has had similar problems, and what I can do to resolve this issue.
Thank You in advance

Yes I had that problem and it was a lose conection(like a wire nut). It's a pain but you'll have to take apart the fixtureMine was the moon light.you can try just poping it out and check some conection there. As for the other bulb,if you haven't changed them yet it is time(Ido mine every 6 months)so that mite be that problem or a bad conection or ballast. And if the moon light doesn't work better after checking it all out then if it's still under warrenty you need to call coralife and they'll send you a new one .If it's past then LFS should be able to order it,and I think it's around $25.

Have you checked to make sure 1/2 the fixture is not getting salt creep buildup? When you mentioned the LEDs on the one side it changed my thinking as my LEDs will start to get a salt build up around the receeded portion where the LED bulb sits.

Otherwise I would look into what loverotties indicated.

FWIW I've been running one for nearly 7 years and everything still works as good as the day I unpacked it aside from one of the 4 LEDS quit working. But I don't really care about the 1 LED

Thank You for all the replies. I will try to disassemble the unit and see if there is anything loose, and order new lights.

I am curious I have 2 of the 3 foot lights and the moonlights on one are a different color and not as bright, haven't noticed as much with the other lights but I now have MH's on both ends of the tank. I like the corallife fixtures but could never figure out why one of the moonlights wasn't as bright....

So you think it was just a bad fixture?
