In my experience the legs break easily too

I've heard numerous people complain about them, and a few have had to obtain more legs to replace broken ones. I concur with Rick if you can find a way to suspend the fixture it's better. The problem with having the lights right on the glass lid (you DO have a glass lid right? Otherwise lights that close to open water are a safety/electrical hazard.) is that they can cause heating problems.
