Coral reef education Site
Those of you who have been around awhile may have wondered why some of the staff have been lax in posting. Alice,Dick and n myself along with Tom Wyatt(TRT guru at large) have been immersed in the MACO online coral biology class being taught by Eric Borneman. It is a really tough college level class that is taking alot of time, but as part of my research, I have been searching websites and came across a really good one I want to share with all of you. It kinda outlines what we are studying in fairly simplistic terms but if you read the whole thing and follow the links, it will give you a greater understanding of the environment we strive to recreate in our tanks.I thought it was a great easy read so enjoy http://geo.lsa.umich.edu/~kacey/ugrad/coral1.html

Gee Ray sorry to inflict that on you but, believe me that is the abbreviated version and my soon to be 50 brain is suffering from major overload. However it is really great background info for anyone who is into reef tanks will really benefit from perusing it

Lets just say that 60 is a lot closer than 50. When I hit the mid 50's, I started falling asleep, memory started to deteriorate, found it harder to comprehend anything I'm reading, and now, I can't even lift a full 5g pail of water over my head to dump in my 90's.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm,
When Doug's oldometer rolls over 50, we need to form a special section of TRT for "mature"
reefers; we could call it the "O.F.R.S."
Hitting a certain age causes great angst to many but in truth, age is just a meaningless number. In the space of time surrounding my 50th, my youngest daughter was born; my first grandchild was born; I learned to sail and bought my first sailboat; I changed jobs for the better; and many other wonderful things happened in my life.
The only thing that really reminded me of my age was that *^%@* AARP started sending me those annoying invitations to join! Those I threw in the trash as insults to my youth!
Aside from recognizing our mature members through the O.F.R.S., we really should have an anti-age discrimination policy for TRT, promising not to hold anyone's youth and inexperience against them!

Troy this class is already in progress but there is a third scheduled on chemostry for aquariums, I believe Craig Bingham is going to teach that one. This one is Coral Biology and its tough, college level class but they may run it again

Heh, when you do, make sure that you get your books as soon as the class is announced. I have participated in all the MACO classes so far, and if you don't get the books right off, they will NOT be available... btw, anybody out there have a used copy of Ruppert & Barnes "Invertebrate Zoology" they wouldn't mind parting with?
