coral compatibility

It has been a long time since i got any new corals / fish for my tank. I was wondering if there would be a compatibility issue with getting sps corals, or any other particular corals, based on what I currently have in my tank?

55gal corner Acrylic
250 W HQI MH 14k
Bare Bottom
About 70-75lbs of live rock.
A Green Carpet Anemone
Loads of assorted Mushrooms - a lot of red pimple mushrooms.
Running an wet/dry w/o bioballs as a sump, w/ a hang on Remora Skimmer.
Tank has been set up for about 1.5 years, and water parameters are stable.
Calcium runs a bit low sometimes, but i've been keeping tabs on it. Think its the coraline. Getting kinda thick at some places.

Fish and Inverts;
1 Maroon Clown
1 yellow Damsel
1 Brittle star
1 Turbo Snail. - The Brittle has been having lots of escargo lately.

I've heard that mushrooms can be nasty to other corals. Anyhow info or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Jerry

If you check out some sites you will find corals that are harmful to others. When you find the coral you want do as much research as you can on them and figure out what they need. Also, you will have to worry about a placement issue. I have heard that bubble corals and hammer corals can extend to hurt other corals. Just give them space and they should be alright. Some trimming may be needed as they grow, or just enlarge the tank. LOL

If you have loads of mushrooms then you may have a problem with them stinging any SPS. I have quite a variety of mushrooms in my tank but I keep them at the bottom away from any SPS and there fine.

As for your Green carpet, as long as it has settled down and doesn't rome the tank you'll be fine, but again it will sting a SPS if it comes in contact.

Thanks for the advice. Hmmm.. my aneome has settled. it has moved once because the power head's suction cup came off, and it didn't like the current it was receiving. Most of my mushrooms are on a couple of pieces of rock. I knwo they are not in need of super intensive light, so i will move what I can down.

Other than stinging, has anyone had problems with mushroom and chemical warfare w/ other types or corals?
