copper


i used the heater i norally use with mixing salt in my quarantine tank that was treated with copper. should i no longer use this heater to mix salt in my display tank?

if you clean the heater with some vinager ( once cooled) that should remove any traces of copper( hopefully) not really sure if the copper wouild "stick " to the heater. in tanks it is the rock and subsrtate and silicone in the tank that the copper comes into..

You should be ok with a thorough cleaning.

It is good reef husbandry to dedicate certain equipment to specific tasks. For example, I have one heater for warming salt mix in 5 gal. buckets used only for that task.

Even without washing it, I doubt there would be enough residue to make a difference. Even salt mix has trace copper in it. There is a huge difference between medicating with copper, and trace copper in a system. It would take a lot more than a trace of residue on a heater to upset a reef system.

yeah, i planned on running out to get a 4th heater and keeping this one for quarantine, but i wanted to start wixing water today for changes in my quarantine (powder blues still doing good ) and my display.just dont have time to go get it. thanks for the responses
