Left to right, then down to the next row, okay?
pic 1 - A soft Octocoral of some sort, but without seeing stolons, mat or other diagnostic feature, it's tough to guess.
pic 2 - The same as 1
pic 3 - Probably Pseudopterogorgia sp.
pic 4 - Scleractinian (stony) coral, without seeing the skeletal features, it's a tough call. Let it continue to grow and encrust, and in time it may grow blunt branches. Porites? Montipora? Who knows?
pic 5 - same as 4.
pic 6 - coralline-algae-covered dwelling tubes of polychaete worms.
pic 7 - a mess of Hydroids, which can become serious pests.
pic 8 - a reiteration of pics 1 and 2

The thing horge ID'ed as hydroids is actually ivory tube coral Cladocora sp., so I wouldn't throw it away. It's a common Carribean coral which I believe can exist in both hermatypic and ahermatypic states.

I hate to go against horge on id's, but I have to agree with sculpin on this one. I don't think 7 is hydroids.

sculpin and gregt,
thanks for the correction.
I am unfamiliar with that Cladocora sp. (arbuscula?)
A Caribbean coral, perhaps?

PS: Whenever anyone hesitates to contest what they feel is my error, any usefulness I bring to the board is negated, so fire away!

Horge, I only hesitate because I'm so horrible with ID's, and you are so good at them.
Yes, Cladocora (arbuscula seems likely) is a Caribbean coral. It's found commonly on aquacultured live rock sold in Florida.

1&2 are Erythropodium caribaeorum, encrusting gorgonian
3 is Pterogorgia anceps, sea whip and Eunicea calyculata, sea rod
4&5 more than likely Montastraea cavernosa, star coral
6 is a mess
7 is Cladocora arbuscula, tube coral
8 is a much better picture
Spanky (guessing with old eyes)

Well Spank I got to disagree with you on the 1 & 2 looks more like star polups. I have a ton of the encrusting gregonians and the have longer fingers and not such a pronounce disk.
sorry oh great one I have strayed from the path
