cooking rock Q's

I got bad hair algae so I'm gonna cook my rock along w/some reef bones I've got.
1. will the LR make the dry rock "live"?
2.Can I add reef bones to replace old rock in display?
3. Should I move corals/inverts to a frag tank of some sort in case of spike till everything is cooked?
4.do i need buffer in the cooking h2o?
5. will my fish be ok?

I can answer a few of these

1. yes - bacteria is what makes it "live" so once the bones are added to the rock that has been in your tank it will begin to populate with bacteria.

2. yes once they have been seeded by rock that has been in a tank

3. - I dont' have a clear picture on how you plan to do this so I can't answer it.

4. no

5. depends on how you do it.

Well the algae is on the top layer of rock. So I'm thinking just move that (maybe half). One piece is in the sand.

I was wanting to cook the 2 together. Then do a whole new aquascape in the end and just not use the uncooked rock. I know for the new aquascape everything will have to come out for the cycle.
I was thinking leave the fish until I go to do all that.

3 - if it's available to you, move them over. But I just pulled the rocks out of my tank and left the corals... when the rocks go back into the tank, if they've been cooked properly, should have no cycle whatsoever. I suppose there could be a small cycle when you remove them, as you'll be removing a good amount of denitrifying bacteria with the rock, but a couple good sized water changes can solve that problem. Just monitor and test the water for the first few weeks after the rocks are out.

I also have a 30 breeder and an old pro clear skimmer. Thinking if I move the corals I can take one of the 175MH's over that. I dunno.
