Cook it or keep it?
This is the last piece of LR that is overrun. Should save the blasto and throw the rock in w/the rest of cooking rock or... try to remove the algaes and save the gsp and zoas(they're kinda taking over the blasto) too?

GSPs arent worth saving... and they'll probably survive the cooking tub anyway. I say pull the rock.

Get a tang to eat the hair and keep it. If not, ship it to me. I am a new found zooanthid lover

Take the rock out, clean it the best you can, and put it back in the tank. decrease phosphate imports and increase exports. You may have to clean the rock occasionally until the excess phosphate is gone, but it can be done in the tank. There is no way I would cook that rock.

id still take the blastos off the rock even if you keep it. A dremel tool or chisel ( screwdriver) and hammer will break the rock where it is located.

Is that bryopsis?? Looks like it. If so cooking wont get rid of it unless you take your mag levels super high in the cooking tub while you do it.
Is that the same algae that is on the rest of your rock you are cooking??
If so...........I will recommend doing one of two things.
1. Kill the rock. Reseed it, then cook it.
2. Toss the fricken rock or sell it dirt cheap to someone but you have to let on its got bryopsis as bryopsis is NOT your regular hair algae and in most cases can be pretty tough to beat even if you do everything right. Get some marco rock to start over.
Bryopsis can be beat but ti takes a super clean tank and possibly the high mag levels to do it. For most people iut is best to just kill the rock along with the bryopsis and reseed the rock.
I will also add to everyone adding new corals to their tank. If your new corals or frags have a thick feathery looking hair algae on them.......do yoruself a favor and dont put that stuff in your tank

No,There may be a few spots but, the majority was the super green non-feathery stuff.

Checked the site... Is that just good quality reef bones?
I'll add that in addition to cooking about 60# of LR I also have some lace rock that is being seeded by the other rock.

you can do a little reading here

YMMV. I have seen beneficial results first hand in one of my tanks using elevated mag levels to kill this stuff or I wouldnt recommend it. However, the stuff can be satan, and just getting rid of it is no guarantee that it wont return. The problem with bryopsis that seperates it from all the other nuisance algae is that it can thrive in some tanks with low nutrients so all of the usual husbandry things we do to keep outr tanks clean dont always work. Which is why i say just get rid of the rock and start over, since you are going to be doing some cooking anyway.
no its nto reef bones. all the reef bones I hae seen I havent liked......its dried fiji rock. SWEET shaped dry premium fiji.
here is a typical example of what marco rock looks like in this thread
