Converting a HOB power filter into a refugium?

Hi! I have an extra Emperor 400 HOB power filter in storage and was thinking of turning it into a HOB refugium. I read about it online (probably from someone on here ) to remove the filter media/cartridges & bio-wheels, add some live rock rubble, chaeto & a clip-on light. Presto, Insta-Fuge!

Has anyone here done this? I'd love to see some pictures. My tank is only 29 gallons and I do not have the option of adding an external sump/refugium, so I find this idea intriguing.

I tried it with a stupid skilter (never buy one of those things). My cheato got all goobly and died, so I did something wrong. It should work right though if you do it right.

I did this... but I had the water piped directly from my HOB skimmer into a completely gutted Emperor. It was basically just a plasic box at that point. I could only grow chaeto on one side due to the angle of the clamp lamp. It is currently taken down as my skimmer is set up differently.

Does anyone have an opinion on the JBJ Macro-Glo clip-on refugium light? Or any other products/suggestions?

I used one on my first nano. The light was a just a cheap desktop lamp with a flexible arm. Think it came from wallyworld.
