Controlling Algae

Can anyone recommend an efficient & effective way to keep the glass clean in a tank?

I know snails are an option but there are specles of algae which are extremely difficult to remove with an algae scraper.

I am pretty keen to listen to suggestions as I really don't wanna be stressing any inhabitants in the tank by keep on plunging an algae scraper in everyday so I was looking for a more natural way of doing it.

Thanks

In our 55g we have probably double the recommended size of clean up crew including four types of snails. The lawn mower blenny keep things tidy as well. There is minimal algae in there bordering on none.

For my 90g FOWLR tank it is never clean as the fish eat any attempt at a clean up crew and poo when they dont eat.

I find it easy enough to keep glass clean by using a magfloat. Just use it 2 minutes each day to go over glass even if there is no visible algae on glass so that the tougher algae (coralline) never really gets a start. It is much more difficult to remove after it has even a few days to get established IME.

I don't particularly care for the magnet cleaners, although a lot of people do like them. I find they can scratch the tank, and especialy is a small piece of sand or something gets in it. I like to use an old credit card or something similar to scrap algae off of my glass. A straight razor can work well, just have to be extra careful.

Thanks very much everyone for the replies.

I think I will stock up on clean up crew as well as manually cleaning the glass each day.

Thanks again.
