Considering pistol shrimp

I was thinking about getting a pair of pistol shrimp along with their goby friend that hosts with them, just wondering if anyone here has had them and could tell me if there is any + / - to having them?

While we are discussing this, will the watchman goby do well with a scooter blenny or lawnmower? (sorry about the add-on, but it works to double up here) 8)

Krackel, I have a Randall's (red banded) pistol shrimp and a yellow watchman goby and they are awesome. They are best of buds and highly entertaining. Check out this thread on them.

hey thanks, I got a deal offered to me, 2 shrimp and the goby for $50. I cant see any downside to this, I am always curious as to the life expectancy of these creatures though

thyere pistol shrimp, not sure exactly what species, the goby is a watchman.
The goby looked like yours, and the shrimp were yellowish.

I have a pair of gobies and a pistol shrimp in my home reef tank and a goby and a pistol shrimp in my office reef tank. They are great to watch, take little to no care ( once every two or three days I feed the shrimp since they never really leave their homes much). Comes right to the stick and takes the food right off. The only disadvantage and I don't considert it a disadvantage would bethey dig tunnels throughout your tank. They turn over alot of sand. I have running a Monaco style setup with an 6-8 inch sand base so I think that is a great quality. You need to give them a sand base...at least 3-4 inches so that they can tunnel. Thats what the pistol shrimp does all day....they are like little bull dozers....Mike
