Question

Considering lighting fixture change

I'm giving serious thought to changing my lighting. I currently have a handsome solid oak hood, with a 2 x 55 PC bright kit inside. My tank is a 29 that is 30 x 12 x 18(that's my guess of how deep it is ;....hard to measure that part).

The hood has become hard for me to manage, and I need some alternatives that would make maintenance easier. Pendent lighting? Or is there a neat alternative that would fit my tank like mpls_gazer (Sven) has on his tank?

TIA

Hey cath! I built a 2x4 frame and attached it to my stand with screws or you can put legs on it and then hang the hood with a couple of chains and then you can raise or lower it when you need too! It ain't pretty but effective and cheap to built.

The pendent sounds good too!

Doug, that is an excellent idea She can keep the existing canopy, just make it easier to use. Hopefully there are supports in the ceiling somewhere in the vicinity of the tank!

hi cath,
i have been playing with mod. my current hood on the 90 g. i like Johnny's hood set up.
i am going a bit farther. i have been figuring out how to use draw slides. by mounting them to a frame i built i should be able to slide the hood completly off to do any maint. i need. the only problem i have seen so fgar is that i must have the same amoount of room behinde the tank as the size of the hood. since the slides are the full ext. typs they will supprot a good amount of weight.
i still have not have it all worked out but i hope so soon.
do you have a shot of the tank we can see maybe to give us a better idea for suggestions?
love ya

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. Tom said he would work on a new design for the hood. I will post some pix tomorrow, though.

You all are great
