Conchs

I plan on adding a couple of fighting conchs to my new tank once its cycled and established. Is 1-2 inchs of sand enough to keep these nifty critters happy?

Also, does anyone know a good source for larger onces, say 2 - 3 inchs ??

Hi, Dave! The conchs tend to stay on the surface of the sandbed so just an inch or two would be fine. I don't know of anywhere to get large fighting conchs, most I see are about 1", and in fact, I don't believe they get too much bigger than that anyway. The queen conch is the one that gets big, to about a foot in length. They grow quick if they have enough space.

Mine are all over the place, and climb up the glass all the way to the top.
I lost one just a couple of days ago, not sure if it died first or the zebra crab killed it, but the crab is running around with the conch shell on it's back, a first for me.... especially considering the way they "move" when being annoyed by something.
