Compression Couplings

Has anyone ever used 'compression couplings' in place of unions on overflow plumbing under the tank? I want to be able to remove my bulkheads if it ever became necessary and if I use unions it defeats the point as I cannot find any that are thin enough to fit through the bulkhead holes.

Any input would help.

I use a thread/thread bulkhead and screw the union in using a little coupler

my bulkheads are threaded outside only. That and am having trouble finding the parts that I need!! Really starting to get to me.
I have found everything I need at aquacave.com except for small unions or couplings.
Hence the question about the compression couplings.

I doubt that it would be a problem to use them, just making sure that there is no weird little thing that I am missing about them.

I am confused about what you are trying to do. Do you have pics? Compression couplings work great to join two smooth pieces of pipe with the same exterior diameter.

Ok, let me clarify;

The bulkheads that came with my reef ready tank are threaded on the outside only while the inside is smooth. I am looking for a way to connect the plumbing from the overflows (under the display) in a way so that if there was ever a problem with a bulkhead I could easily disconnect the plumbing assembly and remove the bulkhead. The only unions I can find are a larger diameter than the bulkhead hole in the bottom glass.Sso if I were to attach those unions to the pvc pipe which leaves the bulkheads (glued to smooth interior of bulkhead), the glued portion of the union (which is glued to a piece of pvc coming out of the bulkhead) would never clear the bulkhead holes. So as an alternative, I have been contemplating the use of compression couplings which are removable on either end.
These are the compression couplings that I am considering using:

Would a PVC male adapter fit through the hole? It should be close, since you are talking about glue the pvc inside the bulkhead, the adapter fits the outside of the pvc as well, so the adapter and bulhead may be pretty close in diameter. Then just glue a piece of pvc pipe to the bulkhead with a male adapter on the other end. Then you can use threaded unions.
