Question

Compact Fluorescent Strip Lights

Do you think the Coralife Lunar Aqualights Compact Fluorescent Strip Lights (36") 192 watts would be good lights to have on a 38 gal aga reef tank. I have a 24" and a 36" flourescent bulbs now. Any input you can give me on the Coralife brand? The Coralife is on sale right now for $178.00. Any other suggested brands?

I'm using this same fixture on a 47G reef/fish tank myself. Nicely built with separate power cords for antic and true daylight bulbs. It's sufficient for my needs mostly soft corals. If you plan on SPS corals and or exotic clams then you should consider Metal Halide fixtures. Actually Coralife makes a pro version of the light your getting that has MH lamps in it, mind you the price doubles, also more heat is generated!

But again if your future plans are for keeping some of the more light demanding specimans it might be worth spending more now than having to dish out a bigger amount later!

do you have to buy legs for the lights or do they come with it. I just want to set it right on my tank.

It's a great fixture for the money but I would consider not laying it directly onto the tank.
Just for the sake of heat.

Comes without legs. You buy the legs extra if you want them.I have one unit with and one without.
