Colt Coral help
Hey folks, I'm home on leave from Iraq and saw that my colt coral has really grown in the 9 months I've been gone. It looks like it's ready to split into two. Can I cut it with a razor blade (at the base) without huring it. Thanks,
Michael

Nice growth! Yes, that usually works. I've personally had rotten luck fraggin colts, but most people have no problems. What I don't like is trying to attach them to another rock. Nearly impossible, IME.
For one that big, I'd probably use the "rubberband tourniquet" method to "squeeze" the frag away from the mother colony.

What Greg said - rubber band should split it fairly fast and painlessly, over a few days.
Stay safe in Iraq. We'll keep you in our prayers.

Nice colt!
Yup, rubberband should do the job quickly and easily. It is hard to get them to attach. I've had my best luck squeezing the base into a crack in a rock and then putting toothpicks in the base to hold it in place.
I'm glad you're able to spend time at home for the holidays. Stay safe and thank you for serving our country.

Does epoxy work as well with softies as stonies?

No, epoxy will not work on colt corals at all.

I was gonna go by experience, but if trouble can be avoided, why not?

They are way to slimy. They put out a good deal of mucous when they are fragged. I haven't even been able to use gel superglue which works much better than epoxy on most sofies.
